Working closely with our architect and interior designer it was decided early on that the focus for our entire colour scheme and design would be the unique Spongolite rock we have on our farm.
Our Style
After researching this rock we found out something pretty special – the two main deposits of this rock around the world are found in this corner of Western Australia and the South-west region of Brazil. Alex moved to Australia from Brazil in 2008 and Anna an Esperance local – we knew this had to be the focal point for our story and design.
The unique spongolite coastal cliffs serves as inspiration for the warm and earthy material palette. In referencing the local environment, we have consciously moved away from a high contrast palette avoiding the use of bright whites or black.
Low maintenance external materials have been selected to suit the rugged conditions on site and resemble the humble “shed”.
The cabins were thoughtfully designed by Nikki Ross at Aspect Modular, blending architecture with nature. The north-south orientation allowed us to harness passive design principles, maximising natural light and energy efficiency.
D E S I G N
York gum (Eucalyptus loxophleba) is a tree that grows in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. It can be found in rocky outcrops, on flats, slopes, and near salt lakes. The tree was common around the early settlement of York, which is where it gets its name. Yate (Eucalyptus occidentalis) is a tree that can grow up to 20 metres tall. It has rough bark on the trunk and smooth branches.
